Sparrow House
Sparrow House, our outdoor classroom, was created as a gift for beloved SRS teacher and principal, Sandy Sparrow.
Note: We would like to share that renovations to Sparrow House will begin soon. Originally built in 1999 as a retirement gift for beloved SRS teacher and principal, Sandy Sparrow, the current structure has served our community well for the past 25 years.
While the physical form of Sparrow House will evolve, our commitment to honoring Sandy’s legacy remains. This next chapter will continue her vision of an outdoor classroom for magical play and learning. Home & School’s Sparrow House Fund will be used for these initial efforts.
We appreciate our partnership with Wallingford-Swarthmore School District and share their safety concerns with the current structure. Please know the new designs for the space reflect input Home & School has received throughout the years from Sandy’s friends, colleagues, SRS faculty and staff, and the SRS community, past and present.
During the first phase of work you will see the current structure removed, and a new outdoor space will immediately begin to take shape. As spring approaches, beautiful new landscaping will appear, as will the opportunity to contribute ideas for future phases.
All of us–as members of the SRS and Swarthmore communities–are caretakers of this special space. May Sparrow House always symbolize peace, hope, kindness...and Sandy.
